ISSEY MIYAKE Shizheng Boutique is located in a developing district of Taichung City, Taiwan. The boutique occupies the first and second floors of a high-rise building, with PLEATS PLEASE ISSEY MIYAKE on the first floor and ME ISSEY MIYAKE on the second, connected by an internal staircase. The first-floor PLEATS PLEASE ISSEY MIYAKE takes advantage of the site’s charm, where abundant natural light pours in. Clothing is displayed seemingly floating along the window, aligned with the outside view, creating a space where everyday wear by ISSEY MIYAKE overlaps with the cityscape. The ceiling-mounted hanger racks are designed to be removable, allowing the space to be restored to its empty original state and providing flexibility for various exhibitions and events. On the second floor, ME ISSEY MIYAKE’s space is inspired by the brand’s distinctive rounded silhouettes, enveloping the room in a dome-like structure. The boundaries between walls and ceiling dissolve, creating a sense of comfort as if being gently embraced, offering a calm contrast to the dynamic atmosphere downstairs. The staircase connecting the two floors incorporates serpentine stone quarried locally in Taiwan. With its beautiful range of green hues, the stone’s elegance has always captivated attention throughout the city. Within the boutique, the serpentine stone reinforces the connection between floors, its solid presence highlighting the lightness of the clothing. Above all, integrating an element reflecting Taiwan’s local character is of great significance.
