Located within the RIHGA Royal Hotel in Nakanoshima, Osaka, the antique boutique PISA was established in 1973 as part of the hotel’s vision to create “a city within a hotel,” curating a selection of high jewelry and antiques from prestigious European brands. Drawing inspiration from this rich history and the location’s identity as a "city of water," we designed distinct spatial zones tailored to each product category. These zones are connected by a series of arched gateways, forming a spatial sequence where each passage marks a dramatic shift in scene, creating a continuous and immersive experience. Through this composition, the delicate refinement of high jewelry, the gravitas of antiques, and the intimacy of the salon and bar each emerge with clarity—together composing a richly layered spatial journey. The wine bottle reliefs featured in the bar are crafted with tin leaf, a nod to Osaka’s traditional metalwork heritage. The exterior walls and columns are clad in custom glass tiles that evoke shimmering water surfaces. The carpet in the antique zone integrates a contemporary pattern of the PISA logo, reinterpreted through the motif of surrounding waterways. With a deep respect for history, we have refined the details, materials, and spatial framework to resonate with today’s sensibilities—weaving together a timeless atmosphere for a new generation of guests.
