"Lightness Embraces Two Experiences"

The ME ISSEY MIYAKE shop weaves together two distinct experiences—quick discoveries and a relaxed sense of stay—within a single, continuous spatial composition, defined by a fence that traces the contours of the site. This soft enclosure is formed by a three-dimensional welded structure of slender steel rods, each just 6mm in diameter. While allowing visibility through it, the fence gives the space a sculptural contour and a gentle fluctuation, creating a cloud-like lightness that defines an open boundary. Along its outer surface, evenly spaced hooks support packaged tops and small goods, transforming the exterior into a site of “quick discoveries” open to the city. Easy to pick up, easy to browse, easy to drop by. This space invites spontaneous encounters and swift engagement, expanding outward from the shop. In contrast, the inner side of the fence gives rise to a gently enclosed area designed for fitting and lingering, encouraging a slower, more immersive experience. This white, sculptural fence, designed through mathematical logic, functions as both an architectural structure and a spatial device. It seamlessly extends the lightness, movement, and vibrant color of ME ISSEY MIYAKE’s tops into the surrounding environment, creating a fluid connection between garment and space.
