"Connecting Light"

LOFT is a long-established Japanese retailer specializing in household goods, known for its trend-conscious product curation. This project involves the spatial design of the stationery section located on the basement level of LOFT Shibuya. A series of illuminated gates spans across the modular fixture units—an iconic element of LOFT stores. These gates are set at a 45-degree angle to the fixture layout and repeat rhythmically throughout the space, introducing a visual cadence and depth that intuitively conveys the scale and openness of the sales floor to visitors. At points where the gates intersect, display areas have been integrated. The convergence of light at these focal points naturally draws the eye, enhancing the appeal of the showcased items. In contrast to the linear and often monotonous flow created by neatly aligned fixtures, the angled light gates inject movement and rhythm into the space, increasing its sense of circulation and encouraging exploration. To maximize the effect of the light gates, the overall ambient lighting has been deliberately subdued. This allows the illuminated lines to stand out more vividly, offering a spatial experience that distinctly diverges from conventional LOFT interiors.
