Bridgestone Proving Ground in Nasu-Shiobara has been positioned as a venue for public motorsport events as part of the company’s efforts to strengthen its motorsports business, offering anyone the chance to experience the track. This project involves renovating an existing on-site building into a versatile space for events, lectures, and exhibitions. The design inspiration is to embed the anticipation and tension felt just before heading out to the test course into the environment. Matte-black interiors and exteriors evoke a sense of the extraordinary, while a light-filled auditorium guides visitors into a focused state, supporting their mental and physical preparation for the actual course experience. Though unified in matte black, restrained use of brand colors and contrasts of light direct sightlines, so the space naturally heightens expectation for the next action. The aim is to create a place where, as visitors move toward the course experience, they sense motorsport’s dynamism and innovation while remaining calm in mind and body as they approach this special moment.
