The design of the 24 ISSEY MIYAKE store was conceived so that the pursuit of “freedom in display” would directly manifest as “functional beauty.” The interior walls are completely covered with 99 numbered, hinged panels. The display is simplified into two basic actions: “placing” and “hanging.” Each panel opens to become a shelf, and detachable hanger racks can be mounted on vertical slits, allowing for free arrangement beyond brand boundaries. Furthermore, the display positions are managed by panel numbers, enabling easy remote instructions and consistent reproduction through an operational system.
This space, stripped down to reveal pure functionality and operational efficiency, acts as a canvas that allows the colors and shapes of the clothing to stand out freely.
